Privacy Policy

ScanSnap — QR Code Scanner & Generator · Effective: April 18, 2026

Gami ("we", "our", "us") built ScanSnap as a free, ad-supported application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

Summary: ScanSnap processes everything locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. The only third-party data collection comes from our advertising partner (Google AdMob).

1. Information We Access

📷 Camera Access

Purpose: To scan QR codes and barcodes in real time using your device camera.

How it works: Camera frames are processed entirely on-device by the barcode decoding library. Once a code is detected, only the decoded text content is retained.

What we do NOT do:

We do not capture, record, or save any photos or video
We do not transmit camera data to any server
We do not use the camera for facial recognition, tracking, or any purpose other than code scanning
We do not access the camera in the background — it is only active when the Scan screen is open

Your control: You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time via your device Settings. The App will continue to work for QR generation, history, and settings without camera access.

🔦 Flashlight / Torch

The App can toggle your device flashlight to assist scanning in low-light conditions. This is controlled entirely by you and has no data implications.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All data above is stored exclusively on your device. We have no access to it. Uninstalling the App will permanently delete all locally stored data.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit — ScanSnap does not collect:

Personal identification (name, email, phone number, address)
Location data (GPS, network-based location)
Contacts or address book data
Photos, videos, or media files
Microphone audio
Browsing history
Device identifiers for our own tracking
Any content from scanned or generated QR codes
Biometric data — we do not collect, process, or store facial recognition data, fingerprints, or any other biometric identifiers

4. Third-Party Services

Google AdMob (Advertising)

The free version of ScanSnap displays ads served by Google AdMob. Google may collect certain device and usage information for ad personalization and analytics, including:

Device advertising identifier
IP address (anonymized)
General device information (model, OS version)
Ad interaction data

This data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy

You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings under Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

5. Children's Privacy

ScanSnap is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through our advertising partners, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

6. Data Security

Our security approach:

Local-first architecture: All user data stays on-device, eliminating server-side breach risks
No accounts required: No passwords, no authentication tokens, no credentials to protect
Minimal permissions: We only request camera access — nothing else
No network transmission: Scan results and generated QR codes are never sent to our servers
Open processing: Barcode decoding happens on-device using established open-source libraries

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Scan history & favorites: Stored until you manually delete them via the App or uninstall the App
Clear all data: Use Settings → Clear History within the App to erase all scan records
Full deletion: Uninstalling ScanSnap removes all locally stored data permanently

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data — all data is visible within the App (History screen)
Delete your data — use Clear History or uninstall the App
Revoke permissions — disable camera access via device Settings at any time
Opt out of personalized ads — via your device's advertising settings

9. International Users

ScanSnap is available globally. Since we do not collect or transfer personal data to external servers, there are no cross-border data transfer concerns from our side. Third-party ad data processing by Google is subject to Google's own data transfer policies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
